Widener University Tailgate

Homecoming Tailgate Village

Saturday, October 15, 2022
11am – 2pm | Pride Recreation Center Parking Lot & Field House

The biggest football game of the year deserves a great pre-game tailgate! From PMC to Pioneer to Pride - all are welcome and we hope you'll join us! 

Our Homecoming Tailgate Village will include: Two beer gardens, food trucks, Widener Wild Zone, kids activities, the PMC Patio, live music, and your Pride community! It is FREE to attend! Find your school, college, student group, department and more at our tailgate – everyone will be there! 

This is open to the entire Widener Community so come out, show your Pride, and let’s make this the most spirited tailgate yet!  It is FREE to attend; pre-registration is encouraged. Food and beverage will be available for purchase on site.

Homecoming Village Tailgate

Highlights include:

  • Two beer gardens serving up fun and games, along with icy-cold beer, wine, hard seltzers, and soft drinks!
  • Our expanded Widener Wild Zone, featuring a variety of inflatables, face painting, balloon artists, caricaturists, and more!
  • Interactive games and activities hosted by Widener schools, colleges, and student groups!
  • Fabulous food trucks including Zac's Burgers - owned by the family of Widener alumnus, Nick Politarhos '10!
  • Special guest appearances, DJs, and live music from "The Shade," a classic rock band led by Michael Kernicky '82!
  • PMC Patio celebrating all our PMC graduates, including the 1972 Golden Reunion class!
  • Fun, engaging activities provided by Widener’s schools, colleges, departments, student groups, and more - everyone will be there! 

Parking Information

Parking information will be updated shortly.

Please note that the grass field in the sports complex next to the baseball fields where our guests have traditionally parked during Homecoming is no longer available. The university is investing in this open green space to create additional fields for our student intramural, club, and recreational athletic teams to practice and compete. Thank you for your understanding.

Health & Safety 

The health and safety of our Widener community is our top priority. 

  • Hand sanitizing stations and disposable masks will be available for guests.
  • Restrooms will be available outside near the tailgate experience.
  • Alcohol (beer, wine and seltzers) will be available for purchase, and may only be consumed within the beer garden area for the safety of our guests.

Alumni, faculty and students are invited to the School of Business Administration's "The Future of Work Conference." The day-long conference will focus on digital transformation, and include sessions on work and industry trends, a boxed lunch, and opportunities for all attendees to network and connect with one another. The keynote speaker for the conference will be Dr. Dirk Werth, Managing & Scientific Director at The August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute.

Widener University Virtual Alumni Book Club - Presented by the Alumni Association

Hosted by: The Office of Alumni Engagement and powered by PBC Guru
Widener University has partnered with PBC Guru to create an exciting opportunity for Widener alumni, faculty, and staff to connect through the new virtual Widener University Book Club. The virtual book club is free to join and participants will be invited to read one book, chosen by group members, every two months. Book club members will connect through a private forum and are responsible for obtaining a copy of the book on their own to enjoy. The first book that the group will read is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.

The Widener University Alumni Book Club will officially launch on Monday, October 10 but you can sign up now to learn more!

College of Arts & Sciences: 50th Anniversary Fiction Reading by Asali Solomon

Asali Solomon will read from her latest novel The Days of Afrekete and other selected works. Her work has been featured in O, The Oprah Magazine, Vibe, Essence, The Paris Review Daily, McSweeney's and on NPR. Solomon teaches fiction writing and literature of the African diaspora at Haverford College.

School of Nursing Keynote Speaker - Ever-Present and Ever-Stronger: Honing our Strengths as Nurses to Promote Health Equity

Featuring Mitchell Wharton, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, CNS, ACRN, Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing and Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion, The University of Rochester, School of Nursing. Pronouns: They/Them.
Reflecting on the pandemics of HIV and COVID-19, this presentation will highlight nurses' ever-present history of care, research and activism to address social injustice and structural obstacles impeding the promotion of health equity. Roles, responsibilities, and opportunities for nurses at every level of preparation to be agents of change will be explored.

Join Dr. Harry Augensen, Professor and Director of Widener Observatory, and John Conte ’09 for a night of virtual stargazing! Alumni, students, and friends will find out what's up in the night sky this month, learn fascinating facts about the Moon, planets, and stars, and see images of celestial bodies taken through our 16-inch Cassegrain telescope. Light refreshments will be served.

French Homecoming Dinner with AMG Induction Ceremony

This event welcomes all former students of French at Widener (or anyone who just really loves French!). This year's event will be a family-friendly, casual meal and include the AMG Induction Ceremony. Seating Limited.
