Every semester Career Design & Development hosts special events and programming geared towards preparing students for their brightest futures. Whether you have a few minutes or a few days to connect, your time can make a positive impact.

What to Expect:

• Resume Reviews: Help students strengthen their resume and share real-life tips for how their resume may be evaluated. 
• Mock Interviews: Help students shake the interview jitters while simulating a real-world interview. After, you can share feedback and tips to stengthen their interviewing skills.
• Job Shadows: Whether over a short Zoom coffee chat or a day/multi-day engagement, here you'll share what it's like working in your shoes.

What’s the difference between a job, internship, and micro-internship?

• Job Listings: Part-time or full-time employment opportunities for students or graduates. Jobs may be short-term or ongoing and often align with a student’s skills, interests, and career goals.
• Internships: Structured, short-term professional experiences (usually one semester or summer) designed to provide career-related learning. Internships may be paid or unpaid, but all emphasize mentorship and skill development.
• Micro-Internships: Small, project-based assignments (typically 5–40 hours total) that can be completed remotely or in person. Micro-internships allow you to get help on specific tasks while giving students real-world experience and professional connections.

How to Create a Handshake Account:

1. Visit app.joinhandshake.com/employer_registrations/new and enter your information. 
2. You will then be prompted to create or join your company. 
   1. If your email is recognized as a company that already has a Handshake profile, click Request to Join. The profile owner will review and approve your request and you'll be notified via email once approved.
   2. If the incorrect company appears or you need to create a new company, click Choose Another Company. New company profiles will go through verification to confirm who you are and your business details. Jobs will not be posted until after verification is complete.
3. Connect with Widener as a partner school to share jobs, internships, and projects directly to our students.

How to Post an Opportunity in Handshake:

1. Log into your Handshake account.
2. From your dashboard, select Post a Job.
3. Fill out the required fields. Be sure to include specific skills and minimum requirements you're looking for. 
4. Select Widener University to ensure our students see your posting.
5. Submit for review — postings are typically approved within 1–2 business days.

Looking for student volunteers to support your organization or project? Share opportunities through GivePulse, Widener’s community engagement platform. Students use GivePulse to find meaningful service experiences that build skills and make an impact.

What is GivePulse?

GivePulse is Widener’s online platform for connecting students with volunteer opportunities—ranging from one-time projects to ongoing service roles. It’s the easiest way to reach students who are eager to serve.

Examples of Opportunities:

• Tutoring or mentoring youth
• Supporting nonprofit events or fundraisers
• Providing design, marketing, or administrative help
• Assisting with community health initiatives
• Serving on local boards or advisory committees

Work-Study Eligibility

Some students are eligible to earn federal work-study wages through approved nonprofit service roles. The Center for Civic Engagement can help determine if your opportunity qualifies.

How to Create your GivePulse Account:

1. Visit widener.givepulse.com.
2. Select Join and select "login via Widener."
3. Agree to terms of service.
4. Complete your profile by connecting to all of the organizations, clubs, and sports teams you active with on campus.

How to Post your Volunteer hours on GivePulse:

1. Log into your GivePulse account.
2. Select Add Impact from your dashboard.
3. Enter details (title, description, time commitment, location).
4. Connect your volunteer hours to the group you completed the service with.
